The young Australian Tyler Wright defeated last year’s champĀ Sally Fitzgibbons at the Rio Pro last weekend, the 5th stop of the ASP Women’s World Tour 2013, tightening up the already exciting race for the title even more.
Despite a super strong performance with an amazing variety of power and progression in the first rounds, ASP champion from 2011, Carissa Moore, was defeated by silver girl Sally, who ended up on another second place after a super technical and thrilling final against Tyler. The 19 year old already stood out in the whole of the contest though, scoring the highest wave of all with a 9.27 on the Friday.
With these results and reigning champ Steph Gilmore’s withdrawal due to a foot injury, the ASP Top 5 for 2013 looks as following:
1. Tyler Wright (AUS) 40,000 points
2. Carissa Moore (HAW) 38,200
3. Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) 34,200
4. Courtney Conlogue (USA) 32,100
5. Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) 26,450
