Which German city would fit better to host a girls skate camp than our beautiful capital Berlin? That’s exactly why Vans and Girlie Camps decided to team up and organise a skateboard camp just for girls here.
And what a brilliant idea that was! Not only is the Mellow Skatepark on the eastern outskirts of the city a true wonderland of obstacles for BMX and skaters, it is also a really nice place just to hang out and chill by the bar, play some foosball or enjoy the amazing BBQ Claudia is grilling.
And of course there is more than one awesome street spot to skate, especially in the alternative neighbourhood of Kreuzberg, where we went for a little skate and shopping adventure yesterday. Although with all the interesting street culture happening around you and gorgeous graffiti everywhere, you don’t really get to skating much because you’re too occupied with taking the scenery in…
While half of the girls stayed in the Mellowpark to hone their skills on wheels yesterday, the other half was feeling more adventurous and decided to gain some new skills on water. So we headed out to the Wannsee south of Berlin, where filmer Basti and photographer Chris took the skater girls on a boat ride to learn a new form of skating: wakeskating! As this is skate camp we all figured that, although it would be easier for a first try, we’re gonna leave the wakeboard aside and start on the wakeskate right away! Except for me none of the girls had tried wake-anything before, and it was also my first go on a wake skate, but in the end a skater girl is a skater girl and able to skate anything with a grip tape and we had amazing fun.
Today we’re going back to skates with wheels to check out some more nice street spots in Berlin Mitte before we pay a visit to the skate hall, where there’s supposed to be much action tonight….
