While the weather gods got a little bit carried away over Europe, 16 year old Swiss local Verena Rohrer was fully on it at the halfpipe contest at the O’Neill Evolution in Davos – and a little blown away after learning she didn’t not only win the contest but also stepped up to World Number 3 due to this result. “I didn’t really have any expectations when I arrived in Davos, I only wanted to put my run on the ground and let people see what I can do, so I’m pretty stoked with the result! I’ve just found out this result has pushed me into 3rd place on the World Snowboard Tour’s halfpipe ranking – I’m blown away!”
With the FIS Slopestyle World Champs luring most riders with Olympic aspirations to Stoneham, Canada the true chin droppers were missing, giving up and coming riders such as young Clémence Grimal from France (who placed second) as well as hidden talents such as 39 year old Akiko Miwa from Japan a chance to shine and impress spectators and judges alike.
We’re excited to see what the Big Air contest brings tomorrow – make sure to catch the live webcast or the respective TV station in your country.
