It’s been a busy weekend for competitions, what with the winter X Games and the FIS World Championships taking place in the same time frame. For such important competitions, this caused a bit of controversy. Something along the lines of: which is better? Which one will certain athletes choose? But the main difference is really, that most (or all) snowboarders despise FIS for one reason or another, and that the X Games a hugely commercial competition, and dwarfs FIS easily because it’s on ESPN and is given large amounts of money by the US Navy and various energy drinks. Even more controversial, perhaps, is the rumour that the FIS World Championships has become a competition for second class athletes who haven’t been invited to the X Games. A few lucky (or just very busy) riders competed in both so we think it’s safe to dispel that one…
