Professional UK Surfer Laura Crane Joins Love Island

The 23 year old professional athlete from Devon is joining the cast of the UK's most popular dating show...

Professional UK surfer Laura Crane has temporarily left the line up, to become one of the newest contestants to enter the Love Island villa tonight.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few months, you’ve probably heard about the reality dating show Love Island. One of the biggest programmes on TV at the moment, it has millions of viewers tuning in nightly to watch contestants try and couple up to win £50,000.

The 23 year old surfer from Croyde, Devon, who took a break from competing last year to pursue her modelling work, is one of four surprise latecomers to the series and confirmed her involvement on Instagram last night, after she featured in a preview at the end of the show.

Laura has been one of Cooler’s favourite UK surfers for the last few years, after we first met her when she became UK champion aged just 14. Since then she has travelled the world to compete and surf, representing Great Britain internationally, ranking fifth in the 2013 International Surfing Association European Championships and surfing the qualifying series for the World Tour for two years.

“She has travelled the world to compete and surf, representing Great Britain internationally”

So what will she bring to the popular dating show? “I am a surfer, so that’s a bit different” Laura told a Cornwall newspaper yesterday. “Since I was 16, I’ve been travelling the world competing in surfing so I’ve seen a lot of things that perhaps some haven’t seen and I’ve had different experiences.”

“I am looking for somebody who knows what they want, who is confident in their own skin and who is ready for an adventure.”

We can’t wait to see Laura on the island and hope that her involvement in the show brings some positive attention to women’s surfing in the UK and abroad.

“I grew up surrounded by boys surfing so I will sway more towards a guy for friendship,” she said before entering the villa. “But I realise how important it is to have girlfriends. I obviously might have to tread on some toes at this point.”

Good luck to Laura, we look forward to seeing her in the island and also shredding it up back in the surfing world very soon.
