Sophie Goldschmidt Announced As The New CEO Of The World Surf League

No glass ceiling here....

Sophie Goldschmidt has been announced as the new CEO of World Surf League today, taking over from previous CEO Paul Speaker.

The new boss comes from the UK with an impressive track record of sporting associations on her extensive CV, including a few milestone moments for women’s sport.

From the Rugby Football Union, to the Women’s Tennis Association and the National Basketball Association, she helped expand the NBA into Europe and Turkey. This is a woman who not only loves to surf, but also knows the business of sport better than anyone else.

This is an exciting hiring for female sport because of more than just Goldschmidt’s gender.

During her time at the Women’s Tennis Association, Goldschmidt brokered an $88M Sony Ericsson title sponsorship for the Women’s Tennis Association when she was on staff, the largest sponsorship deal in the history of women’s sports, breaking all previous records.

We’re very excited about having a woman at the helm of the WSL for the next few years. Here’s hoping that it filters down the company to encourage more female hiring not only at the top, but on every level.
