New Cooler x O'Neill update, this time by super talented illustrator Suzi Kemp...
This month I’ve been mainly enjoying the London sunshine. I got my copy of the latest issue of Cooler magazine just as the first heatwave of the season hit the city – here’s a picture me soaking up the rays on my roof.
Spending time outdoors inspired me to catch up on a bit of gardening. I made a weekend trip to Columbia Road Flower market, and picked up a beautiful haul of puffy belis daisies, dianthus and trailing flowers for my window box. I had a happy afternoon replanting these little critters into their new rooftop habitat. Gardening in the city is possible even if you only have a window ledge. I recommend taking a trip to the market and seeing what bargains you can pick up - many plants cost under £1. You can use old fruit crates as planters too if you don't have a flowerbed.
Inspired by bright summer colours, I finished a series of flowering tea illustrations. Flowering tea is amazing – it blooms in hot water before your eyes and tastes delicious and refreshing too. The best way to enjoy them is in a clear glass mug - that way you can enjoy the intricate petal formations. Once I had finished these illustrations, I had big copies printed to hang in my house.
In other creative news, this month I was also part of a group exhibition called ‘Magic Weirdos Never Die’- pretty good name huh. I shared a space with a bunch of great illustrators from all over the world. Here are the illustrations I contributed to the show. There is still time to check it out on Scawfell Street in Hackney.
Until next month - Stay Cool!
