Illustrated Innsbruck: Non-exotic trip to Byron Bay

I am so jetlagged its crazy, I passed out at 8pm last night before I had a chance to write anything but I gained consciousness at 4am this morning and after a coffee and bowl of porridge came up with this…

I am back from my not-so exotic trip to Australia and although I have a tendency to bring the rain wherever I go I was not expecting six days of cyclone down pour on the Golden Coast.

Amongst all the rain we had a semi-sunshine day on our arrival and took a trip to Byron Bay, my observations concluded that fashion and general appearance in Byron where of utmost importance and the more I explored this place the more I felt like Vivien in Pretty Women, a weed amongst the flowers. Humidity had increased my hair volume by roughly 500%, three days without sleep, tan-less and a make up free face did not work in my favour.

Having only packed shorts and tanks I needed some “pants”. I covered every shop that was worth covering and successfully burnt a small hole in my wallet. This place is expensive!!

The best part of Byron for me was the live music, food and general buzz about the place. In that one evening I saw three bands play in three different venues, Dune Rats, The Badlands and a great female cover band, the next morning we set out to find the best local health food cafe and stumbled across Conscious Cafe, where I had a chia and blueberry porridge and the guys had the best blueberry smoothies I have ever seen. I must admit I felt cleansed after all that goodness and I am now making my own chia porridge at home.

After seven days of meetings I am now back to the drawing board and focussing on all over prints. This is one of my favourite areas of my job and I can often get carried away. If I can stick a print on it whether it be a bikini, pocket lining or a T I will. Moving forward I want to start applying some of my prints to cushions and bedding as I now have quite the archive and wouldn’t mind seeing my designs on a much larger scaleā€¦
