LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 Speaker Review

Looking for a compact Bluetooth speaker that is tough enough for every adventure? This LifeProof speaker has got what you need

LifeProof have released what has got to be the toughest range of Bluetooth speakers ever made.

California based LifeProof have made a name for themselves by producing cases for smartphones that turn once fragile pieces of tech into virtually indestructible equipment.

Wrapped up in a LifeProof case, your phone can take just about anything you can possibly throw at it. Waterproof, dust, dirt, and snow proof, shock proof… assuming memes on the internet about his fortitude are accurate, you could say that they’re the Chuck Norris of phone cases. Hell, not even my girlfriend could break her phone when it’s in a LifeProof case, and she goes through screens like she’s actually trying to appear in the Guinness Book Of Records.

“You’re getting really good sound whether you’re listening to Mozart, Motown, or Megadeath”

But I digress. With a LifeProof case around your smartphone or tablet, you can take them anywhere, and hurl just about as much abuse as you can think of at them, and they’ll just carry on regardless, in their super protective enclosure. And now, LifeProof have made a range of Bluetooth speakers that are equally as impervious to harm.

Life can be pretty dull without your favourite music filling the air. Even the most exciting of adventures, or the gnarliest of runs can be improved with a the right tunes playing. LifeProof know this, so they’ve built a speaker that can not only deliver some banging beats, but that can also be pushed to the limit just as much as you push yourself.

Their new Aquaphonics AQ10 is an amazing bit of tech. As you’d expect of anything bearing the LifeLroof name, this is some rugged kit. If you skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, sandboarding, or whatever, the AQ10 is dust, dirt, and snow proof, so no troublesome grains are going to find their way inside your speaker and kill the vibe, or the circuit boards.

What’s really smart is the AQ10 is also waterproof for 30 minutes and up to a metre down. It will even float if you drop it in the water while you’re surfing, kayaking, or even just having a soak in the bath while trying to get into one of One Direction’s more experimental albums. It also feels good and solid to touch, so it’s no surprise that it can happily take a drop from well over a metre.

So, in terms on indestructibility, you know it’s one of the toughest Bluetooth speakers available. It’s going to live longer that Jon Snow in a tank, but what does the LifeProof Aquaphonics AQ10 actually sound like? Simply put, it’s superb.

Many speakers today seem to fall into the same old trap of delivering inflated, soupy bass notes and not worrying about anything else. However, the AQ10 delivers a really nicely balanced sound, driving the bass, but with really clear top notes, and a solid mid range. What does all this mean? It means you’re getting really good audio, whether you’re listening to Mozart, Motown, or Megadeath.

“The LifeProof Aquaphoics AQ10 has got to be at the top of your must-have list”

At 21x 32cm and weighing in a a reassuringly good 771g, the AQ10 is the smack bang in the middle of LifeProof’s Aquaphoics range, being bigger than the AQ9, but more compact than big brother, the AQ11.

While you can connect your phone via an auxiliary in point, the easiest way of getting music onto your AQ10 is via Bluetooth. You can connect your smartphone in just a few seconds, and have your music pumping wherever you are. You can connect up to eight devices to the AQ10’s Bluethooth, although you we still haven’t worked out how to stop our mate Neil from playing the TopGun soundtrack over and over.

If you’re looking at a powerful Bluetooth speaker that’s compact enough go on the road with you, and tough enough to take anything you can throw at it, the LifeProof Aquaphoics AQ10 has got to be at the top of your list.
