Is London over? We ask Cooler creatives

Eve Bracewell is one of our favourite illustrators ever, here’s some of her political surf art from the good old Cooler print days. A few years ago she decided to leave London life behind and moved to Australia to follow the sun and the waves and job opportunities.

Do you feel young artists struggle with paying London rents?
I was a struggling artist in London! I moved to a warehouse in seven sisters to be able to afford to live and create! The rent was cheaper out there and there was a fun creative artist network in the area. I would still try to make an effort and pay to get involved with the art scene in central London.

Is it worth living in London despite it being super expensive?
I had fun living in London and managed to keep the cost of living down. London is a hub of creativity and inspiration with exhibitions and gigs on tap. I feel it’s definitely worth living in London if you are a creative to explore what’s on offer, even if you can afford it for just a small moment in your life! I learnt and experienced a lot in the five years of living there.

What are the alternatives?
I’m loving living in Australia at the moment, it’s exciting to see and be part of the creative scene flourishing over here. Cost of living here is very high also, as with most major cities, but income is good and the average wage is high so it balances out. As well as a creative, city scene it’s also got a great natural outdoor aspect which I love!
