Sick Of Struggling To Find High-End Skis For Women? Lynsey Dyer Has Made Her Own Pair – And They Look Rad

If you are fed up of brands dumbing down women's skis, then this might be what you're looking for...

There’s one thing that really annoys female skiers more than anything else – looking at the latest range and seeing zero new high-performance skis for women.

While men’s skis are constantly being developed, it sometimes seems the female market has ground to a halt. Last year, for instance, Scott announced their 2015/16 women’s range would be limited to one ski.

Our friends at Cooler wrote a piece about the ‘shrink it and pink it’ approach to women’s skis last year.

Tired of her own futile battle to find skis, Lynsey Dyer, the famous badass freeskier, decided to take matters into her own hands.

When ski makers Sego Ski Co. moved their warehouse literally next door to her home in Idaho, Lynsey couldn’t help but strike up a conversation.

She ended up collaborating with the brand to construct her dream pair of skis – made with high-end technology and materials, specifically for women.

There are two styles on sale – a stiffer, nimbler all-mountain ski called the Gnarwhal and a softer wider powder ski called the Up Pro.

Lynsey studied graphic design at university, so designed the topsheet graphics herself, inspired by her film company Unicorn Picnic Productions.

While they certainly aren’t cheap, both of these are a seriously decent pair of skis. There’s a good reason they scored an Editor’s Pick in Freeskier’s Buyer’s Guide this year.

At least we can rejoice that there is a handful of people really trying to make a difference in the women’s ski market.

Love Lynsey’s ethos? Make sure you check out her rad all-female ski film, Pretty Faces, here.
