After earth colours, the evolution of jewel tones is the biggest colour story on planet snow this winter.
Bejewelled
After earth colours, the evolution of jewel tones is the biggest colour story on planet snow this winter. Last year amethyst, jade, ruby and sapphire were starting to shine, this year they are positively glowing from all corners. Check out Volcom’s ‘Mellea’ jacket and Vans’ ‘Eris’.
Mellow Combo
When it comes to colour combining, the approach this winter is definitely more mellow than yonder year. Clashing brights and neon flashes are replaced by more chilled out combinations of oatmeal, khaki and grey mixed with richer colours like jade, peach and coral. Check out Marie France Roy’s signature Oakley outfit for inspiration, as pictured above.
Split Personality
Last year we had to manually saw our boards in half. This season we can go touring in a much more lady-like fashion with a whole array of female specific split boards raring to go. With ready made models like the Roxy ‘Banana Smoothie’, the Gnu ‘B-Pro Split’, the Rome SDS ‘Powderroom’, or the new Burton ‘Anti-Social’ (released in November), you’ll avoid the painful finger cuts and tedious fiddling you used to suffer until the bindings agreed to stay where they were supposed to be.
Slippery Slope
We thought only footballers’ wives wore Ugg boots these days. So why, Burton, thee of style and general radness, have you decided to bring out an Ugg snowboard boot?! It’s got us baffled.
Not A Whole Lotta Glove
Back in the day it was always mitts wasn’t it? All your fingers nicely huddled together for warmth. But then they wanted independence and the glove reigned supreme for a number of years. For reasons only the gods of fashion know, this winter mitts are most definitely back in. Check out the jazz hands at Celtek.

Heads Up
Helmets aren’t just for the faint hearted, over the past few years, brands and riders alike have seen the light. Technological advances mean that helmets are now lighter and hard as nails. This winter DC is releasing a range of colourful helmets for their park shredding fans. And stalwarts of skid lids, Bern, Red, Head and POC are all busting out new styles, graphics and colours.
