Retro Style Icon: Brigitte Bardot

Text & collage by Mia Kingsley

Brigitte Bardot was born in Paris, 1932, by the 50s and 60s she was known worldwide as an actress, singer and model, going on to become one the most recognised ‘sex symbols’ of the century. The art of ballet was her first choice of career encouraged by her mother, at the age of 15 she appeared in french Elle magazine after pursuing modelling and then went on to star in French films becoming an icon of the country. She tried out American movies but always went back to her homelands productions. Even so America was absolutely smitten with Bardot and couldn’t believe her beauty, she completely captivated the nation. However like most icons the fame took its toll on Bardot and she ended her career in the 70s to become an animal rights activist.

Her style was chic and laid back but always absolutely radiating with beauty. Her effortlessly tousled hair encouraged many women of her time and still do to this day, not to mention her perfect pout and black kohl rimmed eyes, all of which added to her natural allure. To channel her look invest in a pair of high waisted trousers, put your hair up half way with the rest falling down around your shoulders and face, apply thick black eyeliner and nude lips. Maybe learn some French too 😉
