This Brand Is Saving The Planet By Making Yoga Pants Out Old Plastic Bottles

Teeki takes 25 bottles and makes one beautiful pair of pants.....

There is such a thing as recycled yoga pants. That’s right, eco-conscious style is here.

Teeki is an eco-conscious activewear company which not only does good but makes you look good too. They turn recycled old water bottles into awesome clothing, fit for the gym, beach and trails.

The UK uses around 15 million plastic bottles a day. Most family homes will waste almost 40kg of plastic each year which could otherwise be recycled (and turned into cool yoga pants).

Considering the fact that 95 per cent of local authorities arrange for recyclables to be collect from homes, we really have no excuses and should all be discarding our waste properly.

Most homes will waste 40kg of plastic each year which could be recycled

With this in mind, one woman from California – Lindsay Hemric – developed an range of activewear which is stylish, comfortable and sustainable. So how do old plastic bottles become beautiful pieces of fabric?

Teeki

One pair of pants requires 25 bottles and this is the Teeki process:

Step One: Plastic PET containers are picked up at community recycling centres, then sorted by type and colour.

Step Two: The containers are stripped of their labels, caps, washed, crushed, then chopped into flakes.

Step Three: The flakes are melted and made into consistently shaped pellets.

Step Four: The pellets undergo a second melting process and are extruded to make fibre. The fibre is crimped, cut, drawn, stretched, then baled (packaged for shipping).

Step Five: The baled fibre can be processed into fabric for a variety of textile products and uses eco-friendly printing.

Even their printing process produces zero waste, the most environmentally friendly process in the industry.
