For the first video of the week, we pick the teaser for Rio Breaks, the amazing new movie by Justin Mitchell.
Films set in favelas rarely shift their gaze beyond the drug lords and surf films seldom tell a meaningful story about their stars. But the excellent Rio Breaks manages to do both. Following the lives of two surfer kids, 12-year old Naama and 13-year old Fabio, who live in a favela on a shabby cliff with stunning views of Arpoador beach, it offers a warm portrait of youth, friendship, the temptations of the dark side and of course surfing. And if you didn’t want to go to Rio before seeing this beautifully shot wonder, you most certainly will after.
