Most 85 year-old wouldn’t dream of climbing Snowdon in Wales, let alone Kilimanjaro, the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. But that hasn’t stopped Anne Lorimer.
The 85 year-old grandmother from Arizona, USA will embark on her journey on 5 July 2015 to climb the 5,895m high mountain. If she manages it, it will be a new world record.
I know people my age who sit and watch television all day. I’m not going to do that…
“I don’t feel the need to go climb all the seven summits, but this one I really want to climb,” says Lorimor. “I know people my age who sit in the chair and watch television all day. I’m not going to do that.”
Anne is doing the climb to raise money for Challenge Youth Fund, a charity she founded to help orphaned and homeless children find opportunities through education and mentoring.
We can only hope we’re as badass as Anne when we’re 85!
