Last weekend, at the Winter X Games 2012 in Aspen, the action sports community paid tribute to one of their own with a moving send off for the Canadian freeskier Sarah Burke who died almost two weeks ago on January 19, following a training accident in the superpipe at Park City, Utah.
Sarah Burke was a four times X Games Gold medallist and as her tragic death came so close to this year’s contest, which she was naturally due to compete at, it’s no surprise that she was at the forefront of many of the riders and skiers minds during the comp. Several of them, including our current cover star and slopestyle gold medallist Jamie Anderson, bronze medallist Kjersti Buaas, half pipe gold medallist Kelly Clark and men’s half pipe gold medallist Shaun White, wore armbands in her honour.
