So of course it was beautiful blue skies on Tuesday for the second day of the Brits, the snowboard big air. But I was on a train, plane, train, train, bus, long drag of 31kg boardbag up to the apartment in Laax where six smelly boys and a worrying amount of German porn awaited.

The word on the street was that it was a day dominated by newcomers. First timer Claire Frost took the women’s title with two textbook backside 540’s. Samantha Rogers pulled a big frontflip out of the bag on her final jump, and received a mighty cheer from the crowd and second place. Third place went to Lynsey Ashdown after she landed a clean frontside 540. Watch the footage here.

On Monday it was the boardercross and freeski halfpipe. Apparently it was one of the “fastest and most exciting snowboardcross events in recent memory” with over 90 snowboarders hooning it down the course. Top four in the girl’s wasn’t a surprise – GB team member Zoe Gillings took first, ahead of Ivy Taylor, Lesley McKenna and Kate Foster, in that order.

In the freeski halfpipe, last year’s winner, Emma Lonsdale scooped gold with a selection of big stylish grabs and an alley-oop 540. Second place went to Becky Hammond who linked together huge alley-oops and stylish grabs. Claire Hughes finished in third place with a run including smooth back to back alley-oops.

It was the Quiksilver and our very own Whitelines’ party in the Riders Palace last night. Scott Nixon played some dark drum n bass from about 10 years ago, which pleased us oldies. Then some young nippers going by the name of South Central ‘ripped it up’, as they say.
