Port Eliot Festival Returns!

Port Eliot Festival is a magical weekend of otherworldliness with a whole host of music, fashion, poetry, cooking, partying, feasting and plenty more besides!

This year, the festival will be kicking off from 24th–26th July 2009, but early bird tickets are now on sale for a limited time, so get in quick if you want to bag a bargain.

Acts confirmed so far include William Dalrymple, Hanif Kureishi, Arthur Smith, Kamila Shamsie, Simon Munnery, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Justine Picardie, Michael & Emily Eavis, Louis Eliot, Patrick McCabe, Alexander Waugh, Chris Watson, Hadley Freeman, Mohsin Hamid, Kate Summerscale, Gavin Pretor-Pinney, Alexander Masters and Mick Brown, with more acts yet set to join the impressive line-up.

Port Eliot Festival is of the UK’s most original, magical, bohemian, bookish, colourful, musical and humorous festivals. Returning to tempt you with a new adventure in 2009, you’re invited to pitch your tent in the stunning fairytale grounds of the ancient Port Eliot estate in Cornwall, cast aside all inhibition and explore: The new Heavenly Records venue on the banks of the estuary; the Boathouse, with One Minute Disco dishing up a crazy impromptu party on the hour, every hour; and Gavin Turk’s now-legendary House of Fairy Tales, set deep in the enchanted woodland garden.

In the Walled Garden, Barbara Hulanicki of Biba brings your vintage back to life; on the Bowling Green, Edwyn Collins performs a solo set with a reading by his wife, Grace Maxwell; Alain de Botton solves your work problems live on stage; in the Cabaret Tent, Saint Etienne’s Bob Stanley DJs a history of teenage pop and Gaz Mayall whips up the rock n’ roll to a frenzy; in the Big Kitchen, Hardeep Singh Kholi cooks an Indian takeaway; while in St German’s church, Louis de Bernières plays his mandolin.

A wonderful array of experiences await – from a séance in the maze to yoga and massage on the estuary, dancing the night away to laughing until it hurts, sampling the magnificent selection of food stalls to kids’ games. Why not treat yourself to camping in a luxury yurt, teepee or Airstream Trailer in the beautiful Port Eliot park, landscaped by Repton? Shrug off the bitterness of winter and dream ahead to a lively summer’s weekend revelling in Port Eliot Festival’s heady mix…
