I was catching up with a friend at the beginning of the week and realised halfway through our skate rants and silly musings that because of all the frantic Christmas run up and last postage days I had missed out on a whole host of UK and general skate gems. So just in case you’ve been too busy to have fun here’s a snippet of how to regain that lust for the good stuff.
1) – has to be the 58 seconds of pure genius from Isle Skateboards, watch here. The edit which is fourth in their Visionaries series – Left | Right with Tom Knox and Nick Jensen is particularly mind blowing, such a simple concept in theory brought to life by their opposite stances and eye watering near misses. Impossible to fully appreciate first time around – re-watch at least 4 times.
2) FTC Welcomes Laurence Keefe to the team – too many spots not enough time! FTC gives you a full on funk driven flavoursome taste of what Keefe has to offer whilst keeping everyone guessing as to where this was all flipping filmed – THAT STONE! Watch here.
3) Yardsales’ LND – LAX OFF CUTS XXX edit is exactly what everyone needs at Christmas – HEAT, this positively reLAXing 1:48 is tropical in all the right places with smooth synthy sounds and a true laid back approach from the likes of Jhian Namei and Adrian Adrid. Watch here!
4) Sticking to the theme of heat – Shane Cox & Zach Miller skating for ourCaste: ‘The Freedom of Youth’ feels like a time warp, blasting you right back to the Dogtown days, skating the Reddog pool. A nice little Californian edit with spots that can only be found in the Venice Beach area – Shane Cox’s part at the sewage pipe is particularly good. Watch here.
5) Lastly the 16th of December saw the re-mastering & re- release of Playing Fields; originally gracing our screens in 97 with parts from the likes of Danny Wainwright, Colin Kennedy, Mark Channer and Frank Stephens. If you haven’t already seen it, get ready, this trailer gives you a glimpse of what to expect – SouthBank in all its gory, what seems like the longest rails in history and some true pioneers. Watch here.
