Who ever had the feeling they didn’t give all in the contest got another chance to bag some rad prizes at a more or less spontaneous jam session
After the first event in 2007 in Meribel, the Sista Sessions brought the girls to Mayrhofen this weekend with an amazing session.
Because following the true nature of the female gender, it wasn’t just about the contest but about having fun and shredding together. So while the registered riders ripped the medium line of the Vans Penken Park for the qualification in the morning, the amateurs like myself had a little coaching session in the baby line (big thanks to Sweet Dreams for making this happen!). I don’t know if it was the weather (blazing sunshine and blue-blue-bluebird all day long!), our group of girls pushing each other or my fantastic coach Mitra, but everything that I used to be afraid of or just couldn’t stick worked out today – well, almost… Of course there were also some inevitable face coolings mixed in with amazing moments of success on boxes, corners and kickers, but that couldn’t cloud my day the slightest bit – and how could it have with such amazing vibe that not even the sky tolerated a single white spot.

While having other girls ride, bail and cheer with you is one of the most pushing circumstances I can imagine and makes you forget all inhibitions of making a fool of yourself that you ever had, it’s still something else to do that in front of a crowd. But today I learnt that there is also a way to get even my shy and easily embarrassed self to do throw me on a box I’ve never hit before and that is: goodies! To encourage the beginners to have a little jam session together before the real action began, Skullcandy and Vans had put together a huuuuuge box with stuff that was given out by the rail. And believe it or not – even I won something!
After so much action it was a good thing that Steffi from Vans put up with baking delicious Vans waffles for everyone who was clever enough to queue in front of her cute stand in time before the real action started and the best 15 girls killed it in the finals. And like so many events I’ve been to lately, the rookies completely stole the invited riders’ thunder! With Scotland’s Claire Frost, local Tini Gruber and Urska Pribosic from Slovenia on the podium, this session for sure made one thing evident: go for it girls, you can do it if you put your ass into it!
