Are You A Female Adventurer Who Loves Writing, Filmmaking And Creating? Shextreme Is Looking For You…

"To all the wild women who answer the call of adventure: Shextreme Film Festival is dedicated to you"

Female adventurers are everywhere, they’re climbing mountains, they’re running across country, they’re dropping in on 40 ft waves and they’re riding down unchartered backcountry. Why then, does it often feel like the majority of action sports media out there is based around men? Shextreme thinks the answer is about more than the person in front of the lens, it’s also about the one behind it.

There is a shortage of filmmakers sharing empowering female stories on screen for all to see. The team behind Shextreme Film Festival is working on changing that through showcasing the work of female adventure filmmakers out there and providing lessons to teach the skills needed to start documenting their travels, to the ones who need it.

Returning to Bristol this October for the third consecutive year, the cinematic festival celebrates the inspiring stories of women in action sports from a whole host of creative disciplines and acts as a platform for women to come together and inspire the next generation.

Are you a female adventurer already creating her own amazing adventure films, poetry or writing? You still have a chance to enter your work for this year’s event. Shextreme is looking for budding adventure poets, writers and filmmakers to enter their work by the 6th of September. The winning entries will be featured at the festival and on their tour, and the winning poem will be published on Cooler.

“The cinematic festival celebrates the inspiring stories of women in action sports from a whole host of creative disciplines”

The two day event in Bristol starts with an adventure film school on October 5th, with lessons from  award-winning adventure filmmakers such as Rosie Reed-Hillman on how to successfully film your next adventure. On October 6th, the festival then continues with a full day of film premieres, spoken poetry, inspiring speakers and and a live panel discussion.

Mollie Hughes: the Youngest Woman in the World and the First English Woman to summit Mount Everest from both sides, Creative Director of City to Sea: Michelle Cassar, Bex Band: an adventure blogger, expedition leader and passionate environmentalist and Claire-Jane Carter: a prolific writer and award-winning adventure filmmaker, join a host of adventurous female guests.

“To all the wild women who answer the call of adventure: Shextreme Film Festival is dedicated to you” says founder Ruth Farrar. “We are the world’s first film festival celebrating women in extreme sports and adventure.”

“We are returning again this year to offer you an opportunity to become part of our empowering film community that proudly promotes equality in extreme sports and adventure.”

You can enter you own work at Film Freeway and buy tickets and find out more on Shextreme‘s site, as well as check out last year’s films and winners.

If you are not able to make it to Bristol for the festival, Shextreme is  launching a BFI Film Audience Network-supported film tour of UK’s South West: Tuesday 10th October at Exeter: Phoenix, Wednesday 11th October at The Poly in Falmouth and Thursday 12th October at Lighthouse Cinema in Newquay.
