I first read Cooler when the pages were still shiny and chicks on snowboards could just about nail method grabs. In the time it took me to get old, Cooler has become awesome and female riding has gone stratospheric so coming on board to man the good ship while the ed Sam is away is pretty damn exciting. It’s a great time to be females in sport – any sport – and the ones in our sports are pushing boundaries like we’ve never seen. And looking rad while they do it – this si very important. I learned quickly that if I couldn’t get the technique, I should at least have the style … I live in the Alps in France, so the first few weeks here at Cooler have been crazy as I get my head around cycle commuting through London (I did this for five years when I lived here so you’d think I‘d remember how intense it was … ) and get to grips with a million different deadlines. Needless to say though those took a backseat while I decided on a new board (Smokin Vixen – any comments?) and worked out from fashion ed Britta that I was seriously going to have to up my game in the office apparel stakes. Let no one say I can’t prioritise.
I freakin love this world, the ocean and especially the mountains. I love them. I love the view from the top and from the bottom. I love that feeling when you hoon a good berm on the Chatel downhill mountain bike track like the ground beneath you is flowing with the movement of your bike. And I love the breathless choke you get when you carve a turn on a powder day and the last thing you see before the flurry hits your face is a glimpse of bluebird sky. We are so lucky, surfers, cyclists, snowboarders, skiers that we discovered the joy of working and playing in symbiosis with the landscape. And let’s face it, après ski rocks.
I’ve reached an age (whisper it: early thirties) where I know what I love: snow, bikes, mountains, rock climbing, food, yoga, friends, travel, shoes, books, music, laughing and dancing. You’ll pretty much find all of those things in the mag. But I’m more interested in what you love and what you’d like to see in these pages. I’m open minded and I like new directions so if there’s some thing, place, sport or person that you think we should be featuring pop a comment below or email me: [email protected].
See you on the hill!
