Snow

A BIT OF EVERYTHING AT SNOWBOMBING 2014!

There was sun, there was snow, there was rain and there were (probably) rainbows. We played in the slush and we rolled on the concrete for a week of fresh air and cider. For 2014, Snowbombing had its usual mix of offerings with music, snowboarding, partying and extra curricular activities (for us, that was the skatebowl). After an enjoyable event last year we were tempted out to Mayrhofen again this year with Rekorderlig Cider to check it out one more time…

We had to be prepared for anything at Snowbombing this time, as every day was brightened by someone in fancy dress and sometimes the sun too. Summer peeked its head every now and then, interspersed with some rain and snow. Conditions were keeping us on our toes but didn’t stop us from being on our boards. Snowbombing is a predominantly British crowd, so the rain, which hammered down during the infamous street party and forest party, thankfully didn’t dampen any party spirits.

As we remember from last year, Snowbombing is the place that expects you to shred all day and party all night. Mayrhofen is the perfect spot to play, even when the snow’s not so good, it was down to the last frozen H2O of the season in fact. Up the mountain, we spent a morning shredding with Chris Sorman, who is part of the Rekorderlig Collective. He represents the cider company on his board and is a Swedish pro legend plus a nice chap. Perfect fit to bring to the bomb so he could spend the week sliding about and putting on masterclasses for the media (which were enjoyable to watch!).

In the Vans Penken park, we hung out with Faye Young, our Pro Chat from last years Snowbombing, and her crew. She’s spent the season shaping the park, making it more female friendly and was doing the best she could with the last of the snow when we arrived. The park had seen better days but we had some great playtime to film the girls shredding and having fun (to be featured on Brits on Board later this week). We were even lucky to bump into Roxy rider, Katie Ormerod (who we disturbed for some chat) as she was practising with the Team GB coaches. Awesome to see so many girls in the park and on boards! Not just the pro’s, but seasonnaires and snowbombers and first timers!

Down from the mountain and away from the slush, we opted to spend afternoons in the skatepark (after we’d visited Hans The Butcher for a chicken schnitzel or two). Mayrhofen has a lovely cruisey bowl that warms up nicely in the sun, the perfect place to roll the hours away before heading towards the loud music (wherever it was coming from). We saw The Chemical Brothers, Rudimental, Four Tet (amongst others) and danced the early hours away at Hospitality. Plus the Rekorderlig Forest Party treated us to The Prodigy! That’s a lot of good listening.

Pheeww, well that was our Snowbombing week in words! But here, check out our 2014 highlights featuring a bit of everything that went on at the bomb. Some things we saw, some things we heard and some of the action.

Thanks to Rekorderlig for the fun trip.
