Why here?
One of the most breathtaking places on earth, Interlaken is a favourite with adrenalin-thirsty backpackers.
Underneath the imposing peaks of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau, the pretty town is set between lakes Thun and Brienx, where you can kayak, wakeboard and windsurf, in addition to canyoning, mountain biking, white water rafting, climbing and paragliding nearby.

Just 2km from town, on the shores of Lake Thun, Manor Farm is a premier campsite on a spacious, south-facing plot.
It has it’s own private beach where you can windsurf, wakeboard or swim right on your doorstep. The usual supermarket, restaurant and bar are onsite plus a pool.

Mountainsurf Watersports Centre organise wakeboard and wakesurf sessions from 45 Swiss francs, plus equipment rental. They also hire out kayaks and SUP boards.

The best way to soak up the incredible scenery? Make like a bird and fly with a tandem hang gliding session.
Time out
Local’s favourite My Little Thai serves bargainous, delicious food. El Azteca is authentic, but pricey, Mexican.
Backpacker’s hostel Balmer’s has an underground club, or chill outside at The Funny Farm.

Direct trains run from Zurich (2 hours 25 minutes), Geneva (2 h 40), Bern (1 h 10) and Basel (2 h 15).
