My first digital SLR in 2008 was a Canon 1000D.

Although it was great for what I wanted at the time, it only took about a year for my needs to outgrow it.

It is important to do your homework before buying your first SLR so that unlike me, it will be an investment for many years to come.

I moved on to a Canon 550D which was a huge step up in terms of quality and HD filming ability, but no huge advancement in the body durability.
