What if you knew skipping than gym session would cost you £5? These new fitness apps will actually fine you if you don’t go to the gym. Sounds crazy, right?
The RunKeeper app has released a new app called GymPact. You join up to a group with other members of the Gym Pact.
Then you put in some money and decide how much you want to workout per week.
It’s better to focus on exercising because it feels good, not because we can’t afford not to!
If you reach your goal, GymPact will pay you your money back. And if you don’t? The rest of the group who did manage to complete their workouts get paid your share of the money – as well as their own.
Talk about competitive sport!
GymPact aren’t the only ones using money as a ploy to get people to work out. Healthy Wage, another fitness app, offers big cash prizes if you stick to your health goals.
The idea is that it will stop you procrastinating and encourage you to persevere in order to avoid losing your money.

Losing money might get our trainers on and get us out of the door, but it’s not going to make me enjoy our run.
If you enjoy exercising, you’re far more likely to continue it regularly out of pure pleasure – not just because an app is threatening to take money away from you.
