Stretch Yourself
Massage your aches and pains away with a foam roller, a cylinder of solid foam.
‘Using a foam roller is a great new way to give yourself a really deep sports massage,’ says masseuse and personal trainer Oriane Abbonizio, who has helped surf addict Minnie Driver get rid of her post-exercise tension. ‘If you jog or cycle a lot, it’s about the only way to get the tension out of the ilio-tibial band, which runs down the outside of your thigh.’
Place the roller on the floor and lie on top of it on your side, with the roller level with your hip. Using your arms to support yourself, roll your thigh along it until you reach your knee, then reverse. Repeat five times.
