Last night 350 leading figures from sport, media, politics and business attended the Women’s Sport Trust’s #BeAGameChanger event dedicated to raising the profile and increasing the impact of women’s sport. And we were one of the lucky invitees!
The Women’s Sport Trust, who ran this event with the support of Microsoft, are a grass roots movement of ordinary people and organisations supporting women in sport. At Cooler we have been leading the way for action sports coverage since 2005, so this is a cause close to our heart and the invite was welcomed. Amongst all the amazing athletes and inspirational women at the event were Claire Baldwin, Judy Murray and our Cooler cover star (oh and Olympic medallist) Jenny Jones! The room was a buzz of Olympians, athletes, media and influencers. Here’s tennis legend Judy murray stoked to meet Jenny who she referred to as a ‘HUGELY impressive young lady’!
Despite things progressing in terms of increasing coverage of girls sport, more still has to be done, with female sport coverage only accounting for 7% of content. Girls sport has proved, through successes such as Jenny’s Gold, that it’s worth giving a second glance and the speeches throughout the evening were inspirational words of wisdom confirming that. Whether it’s football, basketball, snowboarding, skating, cycling, cricket, the diversity of female sport is obvious, although still minority numbers (compared with guys) numbers are increasing all over the field. Of course if you play Netball you outnumber the men…
The perception and focus of women’s sport is changing and at Cooler we are going to keep on fighting for the cause and covering women’s action sports. 100% of our content (apart from the odd male mention) is female focused and we plan on continuing that.
So what can you do? Well you can support it a number of ways; watch it on the telly, go see a live event, do some sport yourself, read about it (through media such as us!), demand it and, most of all, enjoy it.

p.s. here’s our favourite game changer of them all, Jenny Jones, signing autographs for her fans… we were next in line.
