Billabong “Design for Humanity” event in Sydney

Billabong proved that it was more than simply a surf brand with its special charity event held in Sydney last week under the banner ‘Design for Humanity’ and featuring a spectacular fashion showing which thrilled around 800 guests and patrons in attendance.

Held at the Forum of the Entertainment Quarter in Sydney’s Paddington, guests were treated to a dazzling runway presentation of new season looks which featured stunning US model and Sports Illustrated cover girl 2007 and 2008, Tori Praver.

With all production costs underwritten by Billabong, proceeds from the event were gifted to SurfAid International. “SurfAid’s mission is to improve the health, wellbeing and self reliance of people living in the Mentawai islands where health, water & sanitation programs, as well as a school program are able to be put in place”, said Stephanie Hendrickson, marketing manager, Billabong.

The event attracted an array of high profile faces from the worlds of surfing, fashion and music, including Oz surf ledged, Mark Occhilupo, Taj Burrow and Joel Parkinson. Also present was renowned fashion / swimwear designer, Jodhi Meares, TV personality Laura Csortan, Hilton Dennis from ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, Jordan Rodreguiz from Home & Away, celebrity skater and TV host, Corbin Harris, and fashion designer, Sam Elsom.

Featured on the runway were key looks set to heat up beaches and streets around the country as of July 2009. Some of Billabong’s key new looks for the coming season included classic feelgood vintage looks through swimwear, tees and boardshorts, deluxe hippy style maxi dresses and hot bedazzling metallics touches that will rock the beach and the evenings.

Design for Humanity was also proudly supported by SONY and Virgin Blue.
