We love bikes. As we’ve said before they make living in urbania not just bearable but actually damn enjoyable and of course they are the only truly sustainable way to travel apart from walking.
But we also know that many young women want to cycle but don’t, perhaps because they’re scared of riding in traffic or just that they haven’t ridden since they were little, so it’s cool to see British Cycling launch Breeze a UK-wide network of fun, local rides. Starting this month and led by women for women the emphasis is on a casual cycle in a safe, friendly setting.
Three times as many men as women cycle regularly and the gap is widening, which sucks. Breeze hopes to get 80,000 women back on a bike or riding for the first time and we wish them all the best.
