Following the success of the first Dr. Martens ‘The Brief’ competition, when 12,000 designs were submitted from 146 countries, Dr. Martens is launching a second round of the competition.
Round two of ‘The Brief’ will have not one, but two winners with one winner selected by the public and another by an industry panel. The panel will be made up of influential industry insiders including designers, retail buyers, stylists and creative directors.
The brief is to create a design for the next Dr. Martens boot. Open to everyone from the established and the up-and-coming, to those just handy with a marker pen, Dr. Martens is giving budding creatives the chance to leave their mark on the blank canvas of the Dr Martens boot.
All you need to do is visit the Dr Martens website, choose which boot you want use as a base (the 8-eye or the 14-eye), then get busy with the online design program. You can choose leather colours, upload images or artwork, use a lighter to burn the leather, markers, white out, etc. Alternatively, for those who prefer to use a more established design tools, they can download a template of their chosen boot and use what they want, whether that be Photoshop or a pot of paint.
Both the panel’s and the people’s winning boots, as voted for by the public via an online voting system, will be sold as limited edition product in the Neal Street concept store as well as in style stores globally.
Competition closes 31st July 2008. Winner will be announced early August 2008.
