ESPN has decided to stop running the Euro Winter X Games in Tignes and Summer X Games events in Munich, Brazil and Barcelona though it has added Austin, Texas to its programme. Apparently “the overall economics of these events do not provide a sustainable future path.” So moving forwards it’s just Americans who’ll get to be a part of the whole X Games jamboree.
The summer events, especially in Barcelona, seemed to get a lot of hate from skaters as Andrea and Julia Wilhusen discuss here but a lot of folk also thought they were great for women’s skating especially with the inclusion of Park for the first time and same definitely goes for the Euro Winter X Games in Tignes where up and coming Euro snowboarders would get a chance to compete on the world stage, where as the Aspen X Games was often more difficult to be selected for.
And us Brits are bound to be nostalgic about the Euro Winter X Games in Tignes as our very own Jenny Jones scored a gold there in 2010, having already won two golds at the Aspen X Games. It was also where she did a season and losing the event is going to be a massive blow for the resort for sure.
We’ll round up some rider reaction for tomorrow.
