The Billabong Cascais Girls Festival, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Qualifying Series (WQS) 6-Star event, is set to start today on the beautiful shores of Portugal.
Day one of competition is expected to deliver great surfing with light winds and consistent waves forecast for kick-off. All competitors will be up bright and early this morning for check-in at 7.30am. The field of 60 women will be battling it out for valuable ratings points counting towards qualification for the ASP Women’s World Tour, with the current ASP WQS top 17 contenders among those aiming for victory in Portugal.
Serena Brooke (AUS) and Megan Abubo (HAW) are the top seeded women to compete in the Billbaong Cascais Girls Festival, ready to use their experience to keep all the young guns at bay, led by reigning ASP European Women’s Champion Lee-Ann Curren (FRA) who has been on a good roll this year towards a possible ASP Women’s World Tour qualification.
