The official UK book exhibtion and launch for Eastpak’s new collaboration with Martha Cooper will be taking place in the Proud Gallery, Camden, London tonight from 6pm.
Eastpak has always supported creative projects by some of the world’s most respected artists from T Kid & Seen to Ozzy Osborne & Slash. Their latest cross cultural project is with Martha Cooper to showcase her fantastic photography skills in a new book.
Having joined forces with publisher From Here To Fame, Eastpak is pleased to announce the hardcover release of Street Play – a collection of black & white photographs by Martha Cooper with an introduction by Carlos ‘Mare 139’ Rodriguez.
Street Play reveals the creative and indomitable spirit of New York City kids in the late 70s, determined to make the best of their inhospitable environment in the streets of New York City. The book features intimate photos of inventive children at play, without adult supervision, in the midst of crumbling buildings and rubble-filled vacant lots. This is a true documentation of the 70’s devastation of Lower Eastside Manhattan known as Alphabet City, an area now transformed into an ultra hip neighbourhood.
The book is available in stores from June 2007, priced €29.95.
