Kaitlyn Farrington took victory today in the women’s superpipe finals of the inaugural Winter X Games Europe in Tignes, France. The girls seemed to cope very well with the 22 foot superpipe, and perform excellent along the lines of what the judges wanted to see: amplitude, combination, difficulty, and use of the pipe. Of the six riders that had qualified for the finals Kaitlyn laid down the best run, including a Back 5, a Frontside Air, a huge Backside 9, a Front 5 and – if we saw it correctly – a Back 7. This performance was awarded with remarkable 97.00 points. Second place went to Olympic gold medallist Torah Bright, who showed a run oozing with amplitude and style. It included a Front 7 to Cab 7 off axis combination, but was not enough to beat Kaityn’s technical repertoire today. Bronze went to French Sophie Rodriguez, who kept impressing the crowd with her smooth Frontside 9s.
“X Games is such a huge event to action sports and to have it in France only enhances the culture of action sports on a whole,” said Torah of Winter Games coming to Europe. “That is why I am here to support the first ever Winter X Games Europe – it is history in the making.”
