What: Roxy ASP Grade-2 Women’s Pro Junior
Where: Cote des Basques – Biarritz – France
When: 11-16 July, 2008
The Roxy Pro Junior got underway today in glassy 2-foot waves at La Cote des Basques. The Roxy Pro Junior, part of the 2008 Roxy Jam, featured Europe’s best under-21 surfers, plus a couple of special surfing guests from overseas. The favourite wave-riders all secured their spots in the quarterfinals today, with only four heats remaining in round two.
Pauline Ado (FRA), reigning ASP European Women’s Junior Champion, easily defeated Camille Davila (FRA), Idoia Meabe (EUK) and youngest surfer of the event Lucie Milochau (FRA) despite tough conditions. “I am disappointed with my heat because I could not get a wave in the first ten minutes,” Ado said. “I wish I could have surfed better. The waves are small and the tide was too high when I paddled out. I’ve had some good time lately and I am stoked to get a few good results. With more pressure and focus, I know I will be able to upgrade my surfing for next round.”
Carissa Moore (HAW) put on an amazing performance in round one, posting an 18.80 out of a possible 20 to advance through to Round 2 where she defeated ASP European Women’s Champion Lee-Ann Curren (FRA). “I am super stoked to be here for my first time in the Roxy Pro Junior,” Moore said. “It is very challenging but it is an awesome opportunity to come here and spend some good time. I don’t expect anything special from this event, I just want to enjoy it and surf some good waves.”
Both Junior and ASP Women’s World Longboard Tour contenders will check-in tomorrow morning at 8am for a possible restart.
