With a shadow recently cast over the womens freeski community following the passing of golden girl and legend Sarah Burke (the recent tribute at the X Games Aspen surely brought a tear to most peoples eyes, with athletes, friends and family riding through the half pipe holding candles), it is right that we look forward to events that will celebrate the awesome legacy left by Sarah, a true pioneer and champion of women’s freeskiing.
And so, to the second edition of the Suzuki Nine Queens, back for 2012 after a super successful debut in 2011. Hosted by Swiss shredder extraordinare Virginie Faivre, ski queens including recent X Games gold medallist Kaya Turski, Grete Eliassen, Caja Schöpf and Lena Stoffel will be heading to the Austrian hills once more to tear the rad-iculous course to pieces. If you haven’t been before, we suggest you check it out…the girls will be riding through the slopestyle course which is shaped as one gnarly-ass giant ice chateau, with battlements, fairy tale turrets and icy walls…pretty dope huh? Taking place in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis from March 18th – 25th, the contest also gives rookies a chance to make some noise, so if you fancy your chances you can enter by uploading your own video clip.
