The Rip Curl European Girls Tour brought ‘Learn to Surf Days’ to beaches in Llangennith, Wales and Bournemouth, Dorset over last weekend. Despite the traditional rubbish British weather, over 300 budding wave-riders turned up to the girls-only surfing days in the two destinations.

The agenda started with check-in at 9.30am with a briefing and warm up from qualified BSA instructors. Then girls of all ages and abilities were treated to two 2-hour lessons with Capoeira Brazilian martial art lessons taking place in between.

Rip Curl Team riders travelled from around the globe to provide expert tuition, technique advice and demos. World Tandem Champions Rico Leroy and Sarah Brunel from South West of France joined the Girls Tour in Bournemouth wowing the crowd with a display of their most spectacular lifts.

French-Hawaiian model and Rip Curl team rider Elise Garrigue flew-in from Maui, Hawaii, to offer hands-on advice and top tips to the groups in chilly waters of Bournemouth. Despite the windy conditions, Elise enjoyed getting some beginners up and riding on the waves for the very first time. “It’s fantastic to be back in the UK helping out with another Girls Tour,” she said. “It’s an amazing opportunity for me to get involved in a 100% girls event. I’m stoked to see so many new girl surfers hitting the water every time I come back.”

Llangennith in South Wales was once again a huge success, with Rip Curl UK team rider and coach Elsie Pinniger on hand to help the Welsh Surfing Federation surf school help the girls get to grips with surfing.
