The Roxy Jam is a unique festival that brings together surfing, art and music to celebrate women’s surfing in all its forms, mixing different genres and styles. Taking place between 11-16th July 2008 at the famous Côtes des Basques, The Biarritz Roxy Jam is set to be home to some great waveriding and partying.
In addition to hosting the Womens’s World Longboard Championship 2008, this year the Roxy Jam will also host one of the ten European legs of the ASP Women’s Pro Junior contest!
The top 48 female longboarders in the world will be battling it out for the a spot on the WLC podium, with Schuyler McFerran, Jennifer Smith and local riders Claire Karabatsos and Justine Dupont confirmed to be competing for the gold medal. Glory isn’t all that’s at stake, with a whopping $30,000 prize money up for grabs in this 3rd edition of the Women’s World Longboard Championship.
While all the future shortboard stars will be competing for victory on this leg of the European female pro junior circuit. Keep your eyes peeled for Hawaiian prodigy Carissa Moore, European Champ Lee-Ann Curren, and local legend Alizé Arnaud donning their wetsuits in a bid to win the 2-Star under 21 ASP event.
In addition to the surfing action, there will be the Roxy Jam Biarritz Art Exhibition which will blend art and surf in the “Girls by Girls” Exhibition – a powerful and eclectic art show focusing on the theme of women in surfing. And, if you fancy having a try, there will also be art workshops for the public.
Throughout the event, you’ll be able to enjoy a musical program showcasing the best of the international female music scene: The dø, Headbangirl (Nadège Winter) and Operator Please are just a few of those taking part in the concert. And, best of all, admission is free!
