Location: Saas Fee, Switzerland 11-17th August 2007
Camp Objectives:
This is the opportunity for all snowboarders to try out for the British Snowboard Freestyle (Development) Team, British Snowboard Boarder cross (Development) Team and The British Junior Snowboard Team.
Who should attend the camp?
Any rider who would like the opportunity to qualify for the British Team, or who would like to assess where their skills are compared to British Team standard.
Do I have to attend the camp to be on the team?
Yes. Consideration may be given to an athlete who is on injury status, as detailed in the Selection Policy which can be found at www.snowsportgb.com
Format of the Camp:
Each rider will receive 3 days of training which allows the coaches to assess and get to know each rider; their willingness to learn, their responsiveness to coaching, their ability, fitness, and their general behaviour.
There will be a competition on day 5 and each rider will have 3 runs to demonstrate what they have learned and their ability to perform under pressure.
Qualification to the Teams:
The Development Teams are self funded, full time programmes which will consist of a maximum of 4 females and 8 males.
To be eligible for selection a rider must be able to achieve the base standard. These standards are detailed below…
Freestyle (Development) Team
Men: One 540, One 720, One invert. All must be done in 1 run in the pipe, 4 feet above the lip.
Female: One front side 360, One cab 360, One 540, One invert before a World Cup start.
Snowboard Cross (Development) Team
Men: Each athlete must be within 10% of the time set down by the leading British Snowboard male competitor on a pre-selected snowboard cross course.
Women: Each athlete must be within 15% of the time set down by the leading British Snowboard female competitor on a pre-selected snowboard cross course.
Previous seasons results must be in the top 50% of the Europa Cup standings by the end of the season to continue on the Development Team.
Consideration will also be given to rider’s FIS Points, performance at The Brits and AIM series, a positive age trend and the coaches’ assessment of the athlete on the selection camp.
Junior Team
The junior team is a part time self funded programme and is a combined programme for both Snowboard Cross and half pipe. Riders will be expected to gain proficiency in both disciplines.
To be eligible for selection the athlete must have demonstrated the ability to achieve the base standard. The base standard is…
Must be able to ride switch
Must be able to drop into a halfpipe
Must be able to ride each wall with consistent speed to the end of the pipe
Must be able to rode confidently down a snowboard cross course
Must be able to do ‘blue’ jumps in a snowboard park
In addition to satisfying the base standard the selection panel will consider the coaches assessment of the athlete on the selection camp, FIS rankings, performance in the AIM series.
The minimum age limit for the junior squad is 10 years old.
Details of getting to and from the camp
Snowsport GB have organised a package for the camp which will be detailed on the website. This package does not include flights to and from the camp, these must be booked by the individual.
Cost of Camp: £556 (if under 16) or £611 (if over 16).
The package we have organised includes accommodation, food, transfers, lift passes, and coaching costs for the week. The total cost of this depends on the age of the rider.
