The Saltrock Open to kick off the UK Pro Surf Tour

The 2007 UK Pro Surf Tour is back with a bang on Easter weekend as the Saltrock Open comes to Croyde Beach, and if the past four years are anything to go by, we could be in for a treat.

The long weekend of the 7th / 8th / 9th April will see surfers of all ages and abilities flock to Devon’s most celebrated break to take part in what has traditionally been a major tour highlight. This first tour pit-stop has grown in stature over the years thanks to epic conditions and some heroic performances from the best surfers in the country, and the buzz around the event is immense.

Saltrock remain proud sponsors of this prominent leg of the tour, which will feature 4 main categories: Men’s Open, Pro-Juniors, Women’s Open and the Groms Tour. The Groms Tour includes 3 categories of its own; an Under-12s Open, an Under-16 Boys and Under-16 Girls. Saltrock are keen to maintain their support of young surfers in the area and aim to be able to involve local surf clubs in the event.

Saltrock has been a prominent part of the North Devon surfing community for over 20 years, and is again proud to be hosting a showcase event in their spiritual home of Croyde.
Highlights of the last year’s memorable event included the grom competitions with some outstanding performances by young surfers including Mike Sutton, Toby Donachie, local boy Lyndon Wake and Newquay’s Jack Butler. The women’s competition saw some first-rate performances, and following a classic battle with Spencer Hargreaves, Sam Lamiroy and Damien Fahrenfort who was edged out of FSO Best Air by Reuben Ash, Toby Atkins took first place and the Open honours.

As usual, this year’s contest will be celebrated on Saturday night with a party in a prominent local pub.
