The sun was shining and competitive spirit abounded as the Third Annual Roxy Chicken Jam came to a close today with the slopestyle finals and the highly anticipated crowning of the 2006/2007 Women’s Ticket to Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour Champion, at Park City Mountain Resort. The three day event showcased talented athletes from 12 different nations including Austria, Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The slopestyle final included 15 of the highest caliber women’s slopestyle riders in the world. After a lengthy deliberation, Tara Dakides’ (USA, pictured above) trick variations impressed the judges and earned her a first place finish in the slopestyle event. One of her best runs included a backflip over the showtime booter, backside rodeo to a clean backside 720, finished with a boardslide to fakie on the flat down flat.
“This is my first big win since my injury in 2004, so it is an important win for me right now, said Tara. “I think what Roxy is doing for women’s snowboarding is amazing and I thank them for holding this contest.”
Jamie Anderson’s (USA) fluidity and impressive rail maneuvers throughout the course earned her a second place finish followed by yesterday’s second place superpipe finisher, Torah Bright, who executed a number of cab 540s and cab 720s throughout her runs.
Zumiez awarded Jamie Anderson with $1,200 for her frontside-boardside 270 on the right side of the Zumiez Couch Rail at the bottom of the slopestyle course. Leanne Pelosi took home $800 in prize money for her 270 backside-boardslide with a 180 out on the downside rail.
Roxy team rider and Chicken Jam superpipe champion, Torah Bright (AUS), was showered with champagne and streamers as she was crowned the 2006/2007 TTR World Snowboard Tour champion. Based on a rider’s best six TTR results from global events on the TTR tour, the title is awarded to the rider with the most TTR Ranking points.
“I have been though a lot this year,” said Torah. “I am ecstatic – this is my best season yet. It is such an honor to be the Women’s TTR World Champion. I am happy that I landed my new trick today, a switch frontside 720.”
“This is our biggest year ever for the Roxy Chicken Jam. The athletes continue to raise the standard with their progressive style and new array of tricks. We are excited to keep building this event and come back with fresh components in 2008,” said Randy Hild, SVP Global Marketing, Roxy.
