After spending a week in Chamonix to hone our shred skills at the Blue Mile Snowsports hosting for girls (check back for the detailed field report soon), we moved over the next mountain ridge to attend the 10th anniversary of the Verbier Ride.
Although it was set up in on quite short notice due to organisational difficulties in the pre run, the event was a great success – and that’s not only thanks to the amazing weather conditions, that couldn’t have been better if you had paid for it.
Unfortunately there were only two girls participating in the Big Air contest, but the show they put on easily made up for the lack of other contestants. With Becky Hammond pulling a massive backflip out of nowhere, the crowd already got in the right mood, and although she didn’t quite stomp it, speakers, judges and audience were likewise impressed by her ballsyness. “I just thought I could do it, so I tried”, Becky told us with a innocent smile. And so Katrien Aert’s cleanly stomped 540 mute made the day perfect and set the right course for an awesome after party later on.
