While freestylers were battling it out at the Burton US Open last weekend, the ski and snowboard freeriders pilgrimmaged to the Tyrolean village of Fieberbrunn, Austria last weekend, where the 5th stop of the Freeride World Tour was going down on the Wildseeloder face.
And since this was the last event before the finals in Verbier, Switzerland, the riders were on fire and charged as hard as they could, resulting in a double win for Austria with local ski favourite Eva Walkner displaying some impressive riding, proving she wanted the podium with a powerful full-throttle line and big stomped airs. Snowboarder Liz Kristoferitsch cranked out an adrenaline-filled line far right, bringing it home for Austria in the snowboard division as well.
Eva was stoked “It is so amazing to win in Fieberbrunn! The snow was perfect and everything came together exactly how I expected it to. It’s always difficult to manage risk and smooth, fluid skiing…but I did today in Fieberbrunn with a smooth, fun line.”
Swedish rider Christine Hargin, who won the last event in Roldal, continued her podium streak with her aggressive lines. Today she was close on Eva’s heels with a second place. Tour leader Shannan Yates took a good line lookers left that secured a second spot among the snowboarders. Finally, the Kuzma sisters from New Zealand both took 3rd in each category, skier Janina Kuzma stomping great air and snowboarder Maria Kuzma involving a cool spine at the top!
