Breast Cancer Survivor and Boarding for Breast Cancer Board Member, Una Baker, put on an amazing event Saturday to raise funds for breast cancer awareness. It was a picture perfect day at Trail 6, San Onofre, California, with nearly 100 competitors showing up to surf the fun, unexpected pulse of Southwest swell.

The Western Surfing Association provided their scaffolding, beach permit and personnel. WSA Board Member, Greg Cruse, said: “WSA likes to kick off our year supporting a worthy cause. When Una approached us to run a B4BC Contest it was a no brainer. It seems like everyone knows family members or friends afflicted with this disease and the way to beat it is through early detection.”

It was an incredible scene with the hordes lining up to buy raffle tickets for an amazing array of prizes including a Dewey Weber longboard and Paul Frank beach cruiser. Patrick Carpenter from Pipes Café was flipping pancakes with the help of the San Clemente High School Dance Team. Wahoo’s stoked the hungry crowd with their delicious burritos and the B4BC booth was crammed with ladies learning early breast cancer detection techniques.

All the while, the competitors did friendly battle in the fun surf, with MC Ryan Simmons providing the colourful commentary. Competitors were asked to try to raise funds from family, friends and neighbors and they didn’t disappoint. Ryan Baker collected over $1800, Vania Carrette brought in $1440, and Austin Toohey hit up friends and relatives for $830.
