Freeride World Tour – Chamonix 2013

Last weekend was a big one for contests, with the 2nd stop of the Freeride World Tour going down on our continent while the Winter X Games were romping in Aspen.

The Chamonix / Mont Blanc leg is always somewhat of a special one – clear to anyone whose ever been to the heart of the Alps there and witness the sheer dramatic and stunning beauty of the backdrop there. And the La Flégère ski area on the Aiguille Pourrie face greeted the riders with a cloudless sky and perfect weather – although the snow conditions were once again less than perfect when the first females started after the whole huge field of skiing and snowboarding men (which are double their number by the way).

The Swedish 2012 Freeride World Tour Ski Champ Christine Hargin still managed to score another win though, leaving her with back-to-back victories in the season so far. She was followed by Nadine Wallner from Arlberg, Austria, and Pia Nic Gundersen from Anstadblaheia, Norway.

The story of the snowboard got even more dramatic with winner Laura Dewey arriving late due to a delayed flight and riding borrowed gear as her was gone in lost luggage – big congrats on such determination! She was followed by previous FWT winners Margot Rozies and  Aline Bock.
