Girls4Sport’s Pink Store Helps Breast Cancer Awareness

October is breast cancer awareness month, and women’s performance clothing designer Girls4Sport is aiding in the fight against breast cancer through charitable contributions from its Pink Store, development of sun-protective swimwear options for cancer survivors, and the sponsorship of female athletes who have battled the disease.

Throughout the year, Girls4Sport donates five percent of all its Pink Store purchases to the non-profit foundation, Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC). B4BC’s mission is to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, and the value of an active lifestyle.

The Girls4Sport’s online Pink Store, which was first launched in October 2006, features pink UPF 50+ rated swimwear with a range of coverage options, boardshorts, fitness wear, t-shirts, ball caps, and other products designed for active women.

Breast cancer survivor Lizabeth Horstman Mattson credits Girls4Sport with helping her get back to the beach following her cancer treatment. “I was so glad that Girls4Sport was there with cute and sexy sun protective beach wear,” said Horstman Mattson. “I had radiation on my chest and really can’t expose any of it to the sun through the end of this year. Girls4Sport has had a hand in helping me get my life back to order.”

In addition to supporting breast cancer awareness and providing sun-protective swimwear options, Girls4Sport’s Pink Store was founded to honor cancer survivors like Girls4Sport team rider Robin (Zeuf) Janiszeufski Hesson. The 48-year-old surfer has successfully battled breast cancer three times: first at the age of 33, then again at 41, and most recently this spring. She credits surfing as a significant part of her recovery.

Over two million women living in the United States have been treated for breast cancer. Over 170,000 women will be diagnosed this year. Another 40,000 will die from the disease. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.

The good news is that breast cancer deaths are declining, due in part to earlier detection and improved treatment. “Girls4Sport is committed to supporting breast cancer awareness and prevention as well as the inspiring women who battle the disease,” said Kim Ruby, president of Girls4Sport. “We hope to encourage more women to take early preventive measures and lead active, confident lives.”
