Hectic Wakeboard Season

The UK Wakeboard season is so hectic, it’s awesome! This is one reason I love the scene over here so much. Wakeboarding is still a growing sport and the community is quite small globally, so within the UK everyone’s pretty tight with each other and it’s an amazing support mechanism that you just don’t get in bigger countries.

In the last month I’ve had two Wakestocks, the UK Nationals, Fatface Big Air and High Jump and a very nice weekend demo at the Bedford River Festival.

Let me start with Wakestock…this year we were fortunate to have 3 nights of music and not just the original Wakestock but one at Blenheim Palace as well. If you’ve never been then you’re missing out! It’s Europe’s biggest Wakeboard and music festival and this year was AMAZING! The first one was at Blenheim Palace. A new venue and absolutely beautiful. The boat competition was held on the lake surrounding the palace and easy to walk to from the camp grounds and festival site.

The riders really got treated this year with our own riders lounge with Xbox, Jacuzzi, and free bar. I’m not convinced this was the best idea considering we were competing everyday but we definitely took advantage of it.

Competition-wise conditions were great but as the reigning champ I have to say I cracked under the pressure and was lucky to take runners up. It seems I like the number two this season as I placed 2nd in Abersoch and the UK Nationals. The Abersoch Wakestock is currently being aired on Channel 4 so keep an eye out for it.

The Fatface Big Air on the weekend was held at JB Ski and I’d just like to make a clear point that the chicks all rode AWESOME! With 10 girls entered and £500 up for grabs it was actually really nerve racking. We all got two hits of the kicker and it was awesome to see everyone doing different tricks. From frontside 3’s to switch raileys and the biggest tantrums (backflips) I’ve ever seen, it was tough competition. Suzie Clist took the trophy with a ridiculously giant Railey which was also her first ever competition win.

It’s so great seeing chicks stepping it up and really supporting each other. These are good times.
