Rarely does a Monday morning bring much cheer but we were super stoked to wake up to the news that two times Cooler cover star and three times X Games Gold Medallist Jenny Jones of Team GB fame has scored a second place on the podium at the Winter Games, NZ. This pretty much firms up her qualification for the Winter Olympics in Sochi 2013.
Jenny’s run consisted of a stall to fakie, a switch bs boardslide, 50-50 to indy out, bs 360 indy and fs 700 indy. Another former cover star Jamie Anderson took first with a whopping 94.75 first run score consisting of a bs tail tap over the wallride to a bs tailslide on the down rail, a 50-50 to bs 180 out on the pole jam and a switch bs 5 indy and bs 5 mute on the kicker line. And another former cover star and total Euro legend and one of our mums who rip Cheryl Maas took third. Anna Gasser from Austria took fourth, Jenna Blasiman from Canada fifth, former cover star Silje Norendal sixth and Christy Prior from NZ seventh.
Torah Bright was 16th and Kjersti Buaas [our next cover star!] was 20th. Aimee Fuller and Katie Ormerod were 25th and 27th respectively. To qualify riders need to be in the top 24 on the FIS list on January 20 2014.
Of her win Jamie Anderson said:
Today has been just wonderful. I’m so thankful it worked out and that everyone was patient with the earth – it’s just a part of the journey. I just wanted to land a run and do well but I wasn’t totally obsessed with winning. All of us had to deal with the weather which was quite challenging but we all rode really well and I’m so proud of all the girls and I’m really happy with myself.
While Jenny Jones said:
I was pretty chuffed with my run, especially under the conditions. I mean it was foggy, it was windy and I managed to land all of my tricks. Happy days!
